Reflections on emotions, decisions, and human systems.
Organizations manage marketing, operations, and technology budgets with great precision. But almost none manage the resource that determines the performance of all others: their people's emotional energy. Based on findings from the State of the Heart and models like Six Seconds' Vital Signs, I propose the concept of Emotional Budgeting: systematically measuring, investing in, and monitoring variables like trust, motivation, resilience, and collaboration. Just as we manage financial capital, organizations must begin managing their emotional capital to prevent burnout, strengthen engagement, and sustain performance in a world of constant change.
